Gender Journey Support for Adults

Due to the history of stigma and pathologizing of trans and gender creative identities in psychology and the medical field, you may have experienced harm while pursuing healthcare services. Given this history, I understand that some folks enter psychotherapy spaces with weariness, skepticism, and emotional guard. I understand that re-establishing trust with a health service provider may take time. It is my intention to provide services that are respectful and validating of you and your experiences. Gender incongruence is not a mental disorder. I do not approach this work with a pathologizing lens. I approach the work collaboratively, with a strength-base focus, and with the intention to support your life, relationships, and work/career goals.

Gender and person exploration

Some folks may enter into psychotherapy with a desire to talk about their gender. I seek to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to explore your gender identity/other intersecting identities. I provide resources to support you on your life journey. Typically, we might explore other topics such as sex, sexuality, relationships, environments, and experiences of prejudice and discrimination. We may discuss how you grew up understanding your full personhood within your multicultural context and family and community expectations.

medical gender affirmation documentation

As a member of the World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH), I stay up-to-date on Standards of Care (SOC) for the health of Transgender and Gender Creative persons. To inform my services, I utilize the current standards outlined in the SOC, Version 8. I am currently pursuing certification to become a WPATH SOC-trained mental healthcare provider.

If you are interested in receiving a mental health assessment to support your preparations for gender affirmation surgeries, you will commit to a minimum of 1 to 2 sessions. I use the first session to discuss your gender and overall life journey, share the relevant supports in your life, and expectations related to transition surgeries, and explore other health and wellness-related topics. Once all the information is completed, we will have the opportunity to discuss the next steps. I want to support pre-operative preparations and ensure optimal post-operative healing and wellness. The journey does not end once the last stitch is dissolved!

relationship partner(s) and family support

Gender transition also impacts relationship partner(s) and other family members. I provide individual therapy space for relationship partners, significant others, and family members to receive support and resources and discuss their feelings and reactions to their cherished one’s gender journey. We may also explore gender understandings, expectations, excitements, and possible fears.
